St. Martin Parish 4-H members, families, leaders, honorees and supporters of the 4-H program gathered on May 13, 2008 to honor newly named parish Hall of Fame nominees and to commemorate the centennial existence of this youth program. Nominees to the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame for St. Martin Parish were Conrad Gauthier, Charles A. Fuselier and Sydnie Mae Durand.

A documentary highlighting 100 years of 4-H.

(Distributed 01/29/08) Thirteen people from Northeast Louisiana were the first group to be inducted into the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame. The 4-H Hall of Fame has been established as part of the celebration of 100 years of 4-H in Louisiana, according to Dwight Landreneau, LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor.

The Alexandria Town Talk published a feature story on three 4-H alumni on Jan. 30. They are Cecil Price, 97; M.S. McClendon, 86; and Tunk Andries, 79. The article, “4-H veterans tell how program impacted their lives,” is written by Lisa Yates and the photographs are by Leandro Huebner.

In celebration of 100 years of 4-H, the Lafayette Daily Advertiser printed a page of photos and has a slide show of photos taken at the Acadiana District Livestock Show on its Web site at www.theadvertisercom. The slide slow includes audio. The work was by photographer Claudia Laws and editor Arnessa Garrett.

Louisiana Farm Bureau donates $10,000 for the Louisiana 4-H Centennial Celebration.

Since 1908, Louisiana’s youth have been given opportunities to become positive, productive, capable and compassionate citizens in their communities through the largest youth organization in the world known as 4-H.

The 4-H Centennial commemorating 100 years of 4-H in Louisiana kicked off at the LSU versus Middle Tennessee Football game on September 15, 2007.
